Causeway Coast and Glens Local Action Group have now committed over £1.1 million to rural businesses since first opening for applications in 2016. Amongst those who have availed of the funding is Kilrea-based business Carnroe Supplies, who were awarded £90,000 towards the construction of an extension to existing business premises. Having now completed the project, the company now operates from an expanded facility which has enhanced the company’s operational capability and provides a platform on which the business can achieve growth. The extension includes a new workshop to cater for increased machinery, as well as improved staff facilities including a new canteen and toilets. Along with this, the facility now contains a new vehicle loading bay capable of housing commercial vans and LGVs, which will be used for provision of a livery service.

Commenting on the completion of the project, Causeway Coast and Glens LAG Board Member Tommy Collins MBE commented “Businesses such as Carnroe are invaluable to the local rural community and its economy, and it is projects such as these that the Local Action Group are hugely eager to support. This company has gone from strength to strength in recent years and it is fantastic to see it deliver a project that will achieve further growth and create more jobs”.

Hugh O’Boyle, the founder and Director of Carnroe Supplies LTD said, “I am delighted that we have completed the project and are now operating with the use of our newly extended facilities. These facilities will greatly improve the company’s ability to compete in the market-place and achieve further growth“. Speaking on the funding obtained, Mr O’Boyle continued “The contribution to this funding from the Local Action Group was invaluable. It is difficult for small rural businesses to cash-flow large-scale capital investment such as this and to receive this support was essential. I would implore local businesses to enquire about the scheme and avail of the help and guidance of the LAG’s staff prior to applying”.
