New creative courses at Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre

A full programme of creative courses for adults and children will take place in Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre this spring.

If you have ever wanted to make your own garden willow obelisk, Atlantic Craft NI will hold a one day workshop for adults on Saturday 19th May from 9.30am – 1pm. Adults will also get the chance to unleash their creativity with a new weeklong writing class. The ‘A Lot Less Ordinary’ programme will run from Monday 16th July to Friday 20th July from 6pm-8.30pm. This includes a showcase event of participants’ work on Saturday 21st July from 1pm-5pm.

If you would like to develop your artistic skills, a one day Painting Express workshop for adults takes place on Saturday 28th July. Facilitated by Inishowen based artist Sinead Smyth, it will run from 10am-4pm. Following this, a one day workshop with Belfast based artist Sandra Robinson guiding participants on how to make small sculptures or tealight holders takes place on Saturday 4th August from 10am-4pm. Adults will also have the chance to learn the art of jewellery-making with a one-day workshop on Saturday 18th August from 10am - 4pm. Led by tutor Diane Lyness, learn how to create silver stacking rings and techniques including shaping, texturing and polishing.

There are plenty of opportunities for children in the upcoming months, with a two part ‘Spring has Sprung’ workshop on Saturday 12th and 19th May from 2pm-4pm. Facilitated by Louise Mc Lean, it is perfect for children aged 9+ who will get the chance to paint and make their own wooden birds and birdfeeders to take home.

The popular Saturday Art Club for 5-7 year olds and the Artspark Course for 8-12 year olds return from Saturday 9th June to Saturday 30th June with lots of creative fun in store. Young people aged 8-12 can also enjoy a workshop in Shadow Puppetry from August 21st – 23rd with Joan Alexander from Shadow Studio. The week long programme ‘Get Messy For Summertime’ will take place from August 6th – 10th and is perfect creative outlet 5-8 year olds. Following this, the drama programme ‘I’ll Eat Some Breakfast, Then Change the World!’ will run from August 13th – 17th and is a great opportunity for theatre enthusiasts aged from 9 – 13 years.
