Metals, Wealth and War Exhibition - The Bronze Age

Metals, Wealth and War Exhibition - The Bronze Age

Tue, January 24, 2017

Metals, Wealth and War is a temporary exhibition by Council’s Museum Services opening next month at the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.

Within this exhibition, it will become clear that Ireland's golden age was an Age of Bronze!

The exhibition explores life in the Bronze Age across the Causeway. It was a time which saw a new population cross over the seas to mix with and replace the existing Stone Age groups. The newcomers made objects out of metal for the first time – tools and weapons of bronze, and jewellery and adornments of gold.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey said: “This exhibition brings together objects from across the area and depicts the story of how the Bronze Age brought about a great change in Ireland. It was an age of war, mass migration and long distance trade. Many of the objects in the exhibition have never been on display in Limavady before and I would encourage everyone to attend and enjoy the free event.”

The exhibition will be open at Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre from February 1st –  April 15th. The public can view the display on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30am- 5pm and from 9.30am-9.30pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Admission is free.
