Folk maestros Scullion coming to Limavady

Fri, May 11, 2018

Internationally acclaimed folk rock maestros Scullion will perform at Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre on Friday 25th May at 8pm.

Featuring the revered Philip King, Sonny Condell and Robbie Overson, Scullion will visit Limavady as part of a very select tour of sold out venues in Ireland.

Founding member Philip King is known for his award winning production ‘Other Voices’ and his stunning ‘South Wind Blows’ music programme, both featured on RTE.  A renowned singer/songwriter in his own right, King penned the atmospheric hit ‘I Am Stretched On Your Grave’ subsequently released by Sinead O’Connor.

Scullion first achieved international fame in the 1980s when they had hits including ‘Carol’ and supported the late, great John Martyn on tour. Martyn shared a strong musical sensibility with the band and produced their hit album ‘Balance and Control’, released in 1980.

Another founding member, Sonny Condell is the band’s creative core and inspiration who is responsible for writing many of their powerful, poetic and soulful songs. One of Ireland’s most enduring creative artists, he continues to drive the sublime sound that is Scullion, from their first album release in 1979 to other hit albums including ‘White Side of Night’, ‘Spin’ and their most recent ‘Under the Moon’ which was released in 1995. Condell is also a member of group Tír na nÓg  and has had numerous solo hits including the popular ‘Down in the City.’

This promises to be an atmospheric evening of amazing original music, enhanced by the venue’s cabaret style set-up. Patrons are also welcome to bring their own refreshments although a limited bar will be available.
