Cloonavin goes purple for World IBD Day

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is showing its support for World IBD Day by lighting up its office building in Coleraine.
Cloonavin will be illuminated in purple as part of a global awareness raising campaign on Friday 19th May.
World IBD Day is an annual event which aims to unite people in their fight against Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis, known as inflammatory bowel diseases.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey, said: "I'm pleased we are able to show our support for those living with these conditions by making this gesture. Taking part in World IBD Day is also a way for us to show our support for our local health care providers, who work tirelessly to help those affected. I hope this campaign helps to raise awareness of IBD, and how it can impact people's lives despite being a so-called invisible illness."
Mary Kane, IBD Specialist Nurse at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine, said: "300,000 people in the UK are living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and on a global scale, millions of people are affected. Every 30 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, and World IBD Day is our chance to raise much-needed awareness.”
