Covid-19 Legislation came into force which allows death registrations to be carried out without the attendance of an informant at the registration office which reduces/removes face to face contact with the general public.  The legislation relates to the registration of all deaths and will continue in this method until further notice.

Deaths must be registered by law as soon as possible after the death, but no later than five days from the date of occurrence, except where the death has been referred to the Coroner.

These can be effected by visiting any District Registrar’s Office in Northern Ireland.

Once the registration is complete, the Registrar will issue the following forms:

GRO 21 - permits the burial or cremation to take place
Bereavement Service Leaflet - Social Security Office regarding benefits
Certified Copies - may be needed to claim Insurance, deal with business matters etc.

These may be purchased from the Registrar at the time of registration for the reduced fee of £8.

Office opening hours are:

Ballycastle: Monday & Friday 1.30 pm – 4.30pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.30am – 12.30pm
