Training is not only important, it’s essential for future growth in the industry. Properly trained employees and subcontractors are safer, work faster, stay motivated and make fewer mistakes. They are also easier to recruit and retain. Training leads to qualifications like NVQ's and CSR and registered cards. Not only do they prove to you and your clients that your workers are competent professionals but with more and more clients and contractors insisting on a fully qualified workforce they're becoming essential to get on site at all.


As the Industry Training Board for construction CITB NI, is funded by a statutory levy from registered in scope employers. CITB NI’s role is to encourage the adequate training of those employed or intending to be employed in the construction industry and to improve the skills and productivity of the industry, to deliver a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce across the whole of the construction industry in Northern Ireland. The organisation provides a range of services to the industry which incorporates identifying training needs, encouraging and advising on training, provision of training grants, research, standards & qualifications, and policy development. Training Grants
The CITB NI Training Grant Scheme offers support to a wide range of training and qualifications from apprentices through to the existing workforce including management and administration.

Training in Partnership Grants
The Training in Partnership Grants offer funding directly to industry federations and representative bodies or provide training as identified and procured by CITB NI on behalf of the construction industry.

Training in Partnership Grants are designed to directly fund training delivered to employers at little or no cost to encourage strategically important training or to improve performance of the industry in relation to future needs.

Mobile Training Unit
The Mobile Training Unit provides a convenient and cost effective way of meeting training requirements with minimum disruption to site work. Courses on the MTU range from health and safety training to general operative training. In the current training year registered in-scope employers can book the Mobile Training Unit Free of charge if they meet the terms and conditions of grant.
