Mayor congratulates school on 50th anniversary

St Matthew’s Primary School in Drumsurn enjoyed a visit from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
Councillor Brenda Chivers was welcomed by teachers and members of the School Council who told her about their ongoing work alongside plans to mark the milestone.
Offering her congratulations, the Mayor said: “Engagement is an important part of my role and I was delighted to accept this invitation. During my visit I learned more about the work of the Council which plays a very important role in school life. From ensuring that all pupils enjoy positive experiences in the playground to lobbying for new equipment it provides valuable experience for young members and helps to equip them for future challenges.
“St Matthew’s is a central part of the local community and I would encourage all past pupils and families to show their support for the 50th anniversary celebrations. This is a very special time for everyone connected with St Matthew’s and the teachers and pupils are very proud of everything the school has achieved since it first opened its doors. I would like to offer my good wishes as it prepares to mark this momentous occasion and I look forward to sharing the celebrations with you all.”
A special mass will take place on Sunday 14th October at 5pm in St Matthew’s Church followed by refreshments in the school. It will be open from 3pm to allow past pupils and friends to reminisce over old photographs and roll books.
On Saturday 27th October a special dinner dance will be held at Roe Park Resort. All money raised will go towards the creation of a new IT suite, including the purchase of new laptops computers and iPads.
