Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is offering free English classes to help Ukrainian refugees settle within the area.

Funded through Council’s Good Relations Programme, the ten-week beginner course will help participants learn basic English skills, which will help to remove language barriers and promote integration.

Classes begin on Thursday 14th July, from 10am to 12pm, and will run every Thursday until September 15th. All sessions will be held in Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Main Street, Limavady.

Welcoming the introduction of the initiative, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Ivor Wallace, said: “Having witnessed the devastating events in Ukraine, it is essential that those who have had to flee their homes and resettle within the Causeway Coast and Glens area receive the support they need.

“These classes will help to equip individuals and families with language skills which will allow them to take the necessary steps to re-build their lives here.

The classes are being delivered free as part of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme, which receives financial support from The Executive Office through the District Council Good Relations Programme.
