Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly launches two new Redbay Stormforce 1150 boats

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly has launched two new Redbay Stormforce 1150 RIBs from Ballycastle that are set to boost trade, tourism and connections between Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

The boats were launched from Ballycastle Marina this week with attendees invited to a lunch reception held in The Manor House, Rathlin Island afterwards.  

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Councillor Steven Callaghan, who attended the launch said: “I welcome the addition of these new boats to the fleet.

“Investment such as this not only helps secure jobs for Ballycastle but will also boost tourism for the Borough as a whole. I look forward to continued growth in this area for all businesses operating in this sector.”

Colin Craig, Managing Director, Kintyre Express said: "Receiving the new KE6 from Redbay Boats marks an exciting chapter for Kintyre Express. This investment not only enhances our service but strengthens the vital links between Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

This is the 6th boat procured from Redbay Boats by Kintyre Express in the last 13 years and represents their continued support of manufacturing in Northern Ireland and Sandy Campbell, Managing Director, Venture West welcomed the collaboration saying: "We have been longstanding customers of Redbay Boats for many years and we are delighted to continue working with the team.”

This investment will lead to securing local jobs in Ballycastle while enhancing the vitality of Ballycastle Harbour as a commercial port. It will also promote the ecology and the sea bird sanctuary found on Rathlin Island giving greater access to the Northern Ireland golfing product, extend the whiskey tourist trail from Islay to Bushmills, the Glens of Antrim and the newly proposed Lir Whiskey Distillery in Cushendall.
