Council’s First Tourism Networking Event A Great Success!

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Alderman Maura Hickey with Tourism Traders and staff of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The sunny weather matched the optimistic mood at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s first Tourism Business Networking Event on Thursday 9th June at Roe Park Hotel, Limavady.

The event was a new opportunity for businesses involved in the tourism and hospitality industry throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough to meet their industry partners and learn more about their neighbouring providers and the products on offer within the Causeway Coast and Glens Destination.

Business representatives, involved in the accommodation sector met with activity and product providers on a one to one basis, each taking part in a series of 10 minute interviews to promote their product and looking for opportunities to cross sell and potential partnerships. Response to the event was very positive, with many commenting that it was a useful event in setting up potential joint sales initiatives and for future business referrals.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Alderman Maura Hickey reflecting on the event commented, “We were delighted to see our local tourism providers so engaged with each other and learning more about our varied and unique tourism product offering.

“There will be more events such as this that will open up opportunities for the trade to work closer together and potentially develop packages or joint initiatives to make our product offering and visitor experience stronger.”

Sinead Murray from Tourism Ireland, who attended the event to give the industry a flavour of the significant opportunities for trade to become involved in international marketing, commented, “I found the event very interesting and learned much more about the wonderful product options on offer in the region.

“Congratulations to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for organising the day. I hope industry partners found the day as useful as I did and that the networking with each other will continue to maximise business opportunities for the future.”

The Tourism Team of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council are now running a food familiarisation trip for frontline staff in the local tourism industry on 23rd June, based on improving product knowledge of our local food artisan producers.  To register interest in attending, please email Nuala.McTaggart@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
