Thu, November 10, 2016

A pupil from St. Patrick’s Primary School in Glenariff has been selected as the winner in a recent art competition organized by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Community Planning team.

Eleanor Fyfe’s winning design earned her a £30 voucher while her school received a £300 cheque.

Runner-up prizes were awarded to Robyn Baird from Rasharkin Primary School in 2nd place and Amelie Holden, Hezlett Primary School, Castlerock in 3rd place.

Keen to provide an opportunity for all citizens to ‘Have a Say’ in planning for the future, the Community Planning team has been actively engaging with a wide range of communities, groups and individuals over recent months.

The aim of the competition was to encourage Primary School children to think about their area and where they live.

It linked into work already carried out in the Primary sector around Personal Development and Mutual Understanding, particularly Learning to Live as Members of the Community.

Councillor George Duddy, Community Planning and Strategic Partnership Chair at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, welcomed prizewinners, their parents and teachers to the Mayor’s Parlour in  Cloonavin, this week.

He said: “I loved the designs on display. These projects encourage children to think positively about where they live and promote their understanding of how they can contribute to the world around them. I was very pleased to present the children with their prizes and I really look forward to seeing their designs put to use.”

Community Planning is one of the new responsibilities of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and its statutory partners which include the Education Authority and the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS).

The process aims to develop a long term vision and plan for the Causeway Coast and Glens area and all its citizens based on a thorough analysis of its needs.
