Centenarians receive commemorative coin from Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council
Tue, April 27, 2021
A civic gift has been presented to three more centenarians by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council as part of its NI 100 programme.
Alderman Mark Fielding visited Sarah Wilson in Coleraine, Margaret Mitchel in Aghadowey and Christina McMullan in Garvagh on Monday 26th April to deliver the bespoke commemorative coin.
The date coincided with Margaret’s milestone birthday, while Sarah celebrated her special day on March 18th with Christina’s taking place on January 23rd.
The bespoke gift features Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Coat of Arms on one side with ‘NI 100’ branding on the reverse.
It will be presented to all residents of the Borough who celebrate their 100th birthday in 2021, Northern Ireland’s centenary year.
The initiative is part of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s ‘NI 100’ programme which will mark Northern Ireland’s 100th anniversary. A series of events and initiatives are planned for the year which collectively aim to showcase the very best of the Borough through the century and what makes it such a special place.
Alderman Fielding said: “I was privileged to make these presentations to three of the Borough’s oldest residents for whom 2021 is a very special year. My warmest congratulations go to Sarah, Margaret and Christina, the latest recipients of our centenary coin.
“Through our NI 100 programme we want to celebrate our people and our oldest residents, who have been part of the area for so long, are central to this.
“Thank you to all those who helped facilitate these presentations and for the very warm welcome extended to myself and the Mayoress.”
The civic gift scheme is open to all people, organisations and businesses who celebrate their 100th birthday between January 1st 2021 and December 31st 2021.
