Council’s Museum Service held their inaugural ‘Museum Minis Summer Club’ at Ballymoney Museum this month.

Aimed at children ages 3-6 years, the event was facilitated in partnership with local artist Julie-Anne Richmond.

With over 150 children and adults in attendance, the activities were based on objects from Ballymoney Museum's collection as well as our other museums throughout the Borough.

Themes for the week included motorcycles, fossils, cameras, local artists, castles, and knights, with a life-sized Princess Taisie also joining in with the creative fun.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan commended the Museum team, saying: “It’s wonderful to engage with children at such a young age through this summer club.

“I hope all the children and adults who attended enjoyed seeing some of the interesting pieces in our museum collections and we hope that this may inspire some budding historians.

“I’d also like to thank local artist Julie-Anne Richmond for helping to facilitate a very successful week of summer fun for our local children.”

During the week, Council’s Museum Officer, Jamie Austin shared interesting facts and gave the children a chance to experience some of collection by interacting with Corfield cameras, fossils, and even 17th century armour.

Artist Julie-Anne guided the children through various art techniques to create their own masterpieces, with participants taking home mementos such as cardboard helmets, clay fossils, and their own camera.

The Saturday drop-in workshop was open to everyone, and those in attendance painted their own postcards and stamps based on artworks from local artists Jack Wilkinson and Hugh Thomson.
