August Children’s Month returns to Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre

Mon, July 25, 2022

Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre is celebrating the return of August Children’s Month with a carnival of arts events, activities and plenty of reasons to party.

Throughout the month, the Arts Centre and Drumceatt Square will be busy with families enjoying super shows, films, creative workshops and more fabulous activities for children young and old!

The programme begins on Saturday 6th August with a free family fun day in Drumceatt Square, stilt walkers, juggler, balloon animal modeller face painting and kids crafts. There will also be a free screening of Madagascar 3. (Booking essential).

Throughout August, we invite parents to share their childhood favourite movies as we screen three classics family films: The Wizard of Oz (Wednesday 10th August), Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (Wednesday 17th August) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Wednesday 25th August).  Children can also attend themed pre-film workshops creating squished witch bookmarks, everlasting lollipops and funky rice shakers.

Mr Mess will make a stop with us to perform his hilarious and charming family clown show and Banyan Theatre will imaginatively retell the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, using puppetry, and object theatre by - perfect for younger children.

As well as this, there will be a teddy bears picnic, storytelling, a prince and princess storytelling tea party and a free doodle drawing session in Drumceatt Square.

August Children’s Month will close with a Family Dance Picnic led by Echo Echo Dance Theatre company.  This is a fantastic opportunity for parents, toddlers, children, young adults, grandparents, and people of all abilities to come together to dance and move, no one is too young or too old!

Alongside our creative programme we will also be running a Drawing Competition with the theme, ‘My Summer Adventure’. Call in to the centre and visit the Kid’s Area and let your imagination run wild with our papers and pens, or draw a picture at home and bring it in.

We will select weekly winners and the prize will be a FREE ticket for up to four people to attend a show or film screening of your choice, a fantastic art kit to get creative with at home PLUS their artwork will be displayed in the Community Gallery space.
