A Christmas Message from The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens

A Christmas Message from The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens

Wed, December 13, 2023

As Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, I would like to wish all residents of the Borough a wonderful and meaningful Christmas that is filled with happiness, and most importantly good health.

I know that for many of you the past year has been challenging, and at Christmas especially, problems can seem overwhelming. I would encourage you to seek support from the very approachable support organisations and community groups we have here in the Borough.

Organisations such as The Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society or local church and community groups can help with various issues such as loneliness or financial problems and I would encourage you to ask for the help that is available to you.

With the rising cost of food, many are struggling to feed their families. Information regarding specific support provided through foodbanks can also be found via the Council website.

I would like to take a moment to pay a heartfelt tribute to the teams of volunteers who work within our community providing much needed support to others, many of whom will be helping with Christmas dinners for others over this festive period.

Christmas is a time for giving, and whether you chose to do that through donating your time or selecting a gift for others, we have many independent businesses in our towns and villages that I know will very much value your support. If you can, I’d encourage you to shop local this festive season, support our town centre traders and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere our town centres offer at Christmas time and indeed all year round.

For those of you who have lost a loved one this past year, or maybe you are missing friends or family that live abroad, I wish you happiness, comfort, and God’s blessings for this year and beyond.

To our newcomers in the Borough or those who do not celebrate at this time of year, from myself and my colleagues at Council I wish you good health and happiness. I know that you will continue to experience the welcoming nature Causeway Coast and Glens residents are renowned for.

Best wishes to all our residents and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Councillor Steven Callaghan QPM
