Christmas Facts

Most of us recycle all year round which is good news for our planet, but we need to keep it going especially over the Christmas and New year holiday period.  Last Christmas we used an estimated 289,000 tonnes of card packaging, enough to cover the Giant's Causeway over 1800 times!

Remember to recycle your Christmas cards, tear off any glitter sections or bows and remove plastic film and sticky tape from paper and card packaging before recycling it in your blue bin.

After Christmas please bring all your real christmas trees to your local household recycling centre for composting and any used batteries please also bring to your local household recycling centre, click on the link for a full list of sites and opening hours, Household Recycling Centres around the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area.

The best thing we can do with our food is enjoy it, but unfortunately some food waste is unavoidable, so please use your food caddy and brown bin for composting all your food waste this holiday season. Click here to find out how to recycle all your unwanted food waste.

You can collect additional compostable food caddy bags from any of our Household Recycling Centres throughout the borough.

If you do not have a food caddy or brown bin and require one for the collection of mixed food and garden waste, please click here for full contact details of the depot in your area.
