Shop local this Christmas
2019 has been a very successful year for the Causeway Coast and Glens, as it builds on its reputation as a ‘go to’ destination for locally produced food and drink, along with high quality arts and craft items.
In August, the Restaurants Association of Ireland named ‘Taste Causeway’, an umbrella organisation for the region’s artisans and hospitality providers, as runner-up in the prestigious ‘Ireland’s Best Foodie Destination’ competition, an exceptional achievement which proves we are among the very best.
There was further cause for celebration in October, when the Borough was awarded ‘Fairtrade’ status in recognition of its support for fair terms of trade for producers and environmental protection. In addition to this, several of our towns have won awards in various competitions including Ulster in Bloom and the NI Independent Retail Awards, which featured businesses from eight towns in the Borough among the nominees.
During the Christmas shopping period, take the opportunity to get out and about and explore our local towns which make the Causeway Coast and Glens such a unique and special place. From Greysteel to The Glens, our towns and villages are home to a vibrant array of colourful shops and knowledgeable, friendly owners. In our bigger towns, shops retain that personal touch and have a better range than ever before, with streets full of choice for all your special gifts and a variety of cafes and restaurants for when you need to refresh and relax.
This year, we are delighted to have launched a bespoke Gift Card for the area, which can be spent in a wide range of participating businesses. The Causeway Coast and Glens Gift Card is unique to this area, and offers choice and flexibility while ensuring your money is spent in the Borough.
Please take the time to explore the area, shop local and support our business community this Christmas.
A happy and healthy Christmas to everybody.
Councillor Sean Bateson.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council
