Council’s Summer Recreation Programme is ‘Getting Ready To Get Active’

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have unveiled this year’s Summer Recreation Programme with a range of exciting activities taking place in venues across the Borough.

The Council’s Sport & Wellbeing Development Unit have developed an exciting and varied range of Sports Camps which will run from Monday 1st July until Friday 16th August.  Participants can look forward to a choice of 23 sports courses, 7 Community Summer Activity Schemes, 4 Inclusive Family Play Events, an Inclusive Summer Scheme in partnership with the Mae Murray Foundation and also our 3 Leisure Centres Summer Schemes in Roe Valley Leisure Centre, Sheskburn Recreation Centre and Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Steven Callaghan said: “Council is delighted to introduce a Summer Recreation Programme which gives our residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy fantastic fun activities across the Borough.  I would encourage all young people to take part in the programme and enjoy the many benefits associated with getting active.” 

Sports Development Manager, John Fall said: “I’m really excited about the scale and variety of courses and schemes on offer this year. The Council's Sports Development Team remains committed to offering quality activities which are reflective of the specific needs within our communities. This year’s programme demonstrates an innovative approach to sport and activity delivery. Our courses and schemes are developed with young people in mind and offer exceptional coaching and supervision with lots of emphasis on having fun.”

Enrolment for all courses begins on Tuesday 7th May.

The easiest way to enrol is via the Council website, but you can book via the telephone or by calling in to Coleraine Leisure Centre, Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre (Ballymoney) or Roe Valley Leisure Centre (Limavady).

Each sports camp costs £43.50. Discounts are available for a Family ticket with 3 or more children from the same immediate family, as well as a Multi Camp ticket for a minimum of 3 sports camps booked at the same time for £35 per camp.

The Community Summer Recreation Scheme includes activity schemes based in Coleraine West, Ballysally, Portstewart, Castlerock, Mosside, Kilrea and Dungiven. Each scheme will run for one week and cost £37.50 per person.  A Family discount ticket is available for community summer schemes for booking 3 or more children from the same immediate family from £30 and also a Multi Ticket for booking a minimum 3 community summer schemes at the same time for £30 per scheme.

At Ballymoney’s Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, the 3-day Inclusive Summer Scheme in partnership with the Mae Murray Foundation will run from July 8th to July 10th at a cost of £22.50.

Inclusive Family Free Play Events will take place on July 3rd at Flowerfield Park in Portstewart, 17th July at Portrush Recreation Grounds, 7th August at Roe Mill Park in Limavady and on 14th August in Megaw Pk Ballymoney – an ideal opportunity for families to take part in activities at venues with inclusive play facilities on site.
