Safe and Alert Accreditation
Taste Causeway has collaborated with North West Regional College (NWRC) Business Support Centre (BSC) to develop this new Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace for hospitality businesses in the Causeway Coast and Glens. Based on demand we are now offering a course for B&B/Guesthouses. Please be advised that this course is only relevant to the food element of your business i.e. the eating and kitchen area. The college is not accredited to offer assistance on the accommodation element. As we enter the recovery phase and plan for re-opening, it was important for the businesses that they were trained in health and safety and received a recognised qualification to help them understand their legal obligations. This course provides information in an accessible way and helps give businesses the confidence to navigate the minefield of guidelines and procedures that they have received in recent weeks.
All participants will gain an appreciation and understanding of relevant legislation and guidance from the government and other relevant agencies such as the Health and Safety Executive and its application to their business. Businesses will be required to complete a risk assessment and map out additional equipment and PPE required for employee and public safety within their premises and assess the viability of these working practices. Each business will also appoint a dedicated Safe and Alert Champion who will be the point of contact for their business to disseminate updates/information/best practice to be made and implemented.
The Course will run over 2 full days (9.30am – 4.30pm) various dates in July 2020. This will be a mixture of online tutorials via Zoom at set times over the day, coupled with time to complete practical exercises relevant to your business on Health and Safety in the Workplace and Planning and Risk Assessments around the current government guidelines in returning to work. You will be advised on the schedule of Zoom seminars at the beginning of each day. On successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded SafeCert Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace accredited by CCEA Regulation. Each individual will receive a certificate to display inside premises, a window sticker and a pdf for marketing purposes.
Businesses will also be encouraged to share ideas, best practice and learn from each other on innovative ways to instigate social distancing measures as the course develops. Businesses who completed the course last week have reported a very positive response from insurance companies as it is sound evidence of a business’s taking mitigating measures to protect customers and staff against COVID-19.
This course represents a collective effort to communicate to visitors to the Causeway Coast and Glens that the businesses are taking the safety of visitors and staff very seriously and are working together to ensure that that they understand and have made a concerted effort to understand and implement the necessary guidelines. Moreover, it represents a commitment to continue to react to new guidelines and safety information as it develops through the Safe and Alert Champion. Taste Causeway and its partner organisations will use the scheme as part of their recovery marketing plans focusing on social media, PR and other media to get the collective message across. This marketing message will commence in earnest w/c 8th June through social media and PR channels. Businesses will receive information on the course on the marketing initiative and how their business can get involved .
