CafeSmart is a new initiative celebrating the environmental efforts of local eateries. CaféSmart recognises restaurants and cafés who are committed to waste reduction, energy saving and ethically sourcing goods. Consumers are increasingly looking for businesses who show positive environmental and social practices and Council’s CaféSmart award is a way to formally recognise this.
All CaféSmart recognised establishments will be registered on a ‘story-map’ on Council’s website which will include information about sustainability activities and environmental efforts. This will be easily accessible to the general public and provides a unique platform for eateries to showcase how they are trying to improve their ecological and social performance. It ensures residents and visitors will be well informed about efforts across the Causeway Coast and Glens to protect natural resources for future generations.
To get involved, all you need to do is book a free CaféSmart Survey which will be carried out by Council’s Environmental Resource Team who can also offer advice and guidance on best-practice. You can contact the team by emailing email@example.com or ring 028 2766 0248.
PlasticSmart aims to reduce plastic use and increase recycling in Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council with simple, practical actions. Whilst plastic is a really useful product, the problem is that most of it isn’t biodegradable. It doesn’t rot and it can hang around in the environment for hundreds of years. This is bad enough when it is in a landfill site, but much worse when it is left as litter and ends up in the sea. To find out more about the practical ways you can help reduce your plastic, please visit Plastic Smart
