Translink un-wraps festive travel for Coleraine this Christmas

This Christmas will see Translink, Northern Ireland’s Public Transport Provider, introduce ‘more discounted fares than ever’ to ensure shoppers and commuters can make their all-important journeys over the festive period.

With a host of network-wide fare reductions in Coleraine and across Northern Ireland, people can enjoy the prospect of seeing family, friends and work colleagues without the worry of driving and car parking. Generous discounts all-day-long will be rolled out across all services, including free returns on Goldline and Ulsterbus services available from November. In addition to this, Translink has committed to introducing an enhanced timetable with extended hours, ensuring all journeys are checked-off people’s Christmas travel list.

Encouraging people to travel with Translink, The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey,said:

“Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is delighted to partner with Translink to launch this festive travel campaign, and we would encourage everyone to give public transport a go when travelling to local events and attractions over the Christmas season.

“This is a particularly important campaign given the economic importance of the Christmas period for local businesses. And with increased capacity, enhanced services and a range of cost reductions across the network, there’s never been a better time to hop on board the bus or train, to shop and socialise locally this Christmas.”

Talking about the exciting range of fare promotions and additional services, Sam Todd, Service Delivery Manager at Translink said:

“We are working closely with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and partners to support the local retail and hospitality sector, in Coleraine and surrounding areas. We have a range of fare promotions to encourage shoppers, commuters and families to ditch the car and enjoy a festive day out in the area.

“For anyone planning to Christmas shop or visit friends, we’re offering a day return for the same price as a single across Northern Ireland on our Goldline and Ulsterbus services after 9.30am from now until 31st December 2016. And for families looking for a fun day out, our Family and Friends ticket offers one day’s unlimited travel for up to two adults and four children across all services on weekdays after 9.30am and no time restrictions for Saturdays and Sundays(for £22) and from 17th December 2016 – 2nd January 2017 for the reduced fare of £15.

“Commuters who travel to Belfast should avail of the 1/3 off discount for our 6.45am and 7.45am Goldline services from Coleraine (Services 218/219). For train passengers, we are also offering a day return fare for the price of a single from Derry~Londonderry through to Coleraine and onto Portrush. NI Railways is also offering 25% off monthly tickets purchased between 21st November and 9th December (paper and mLink).  Additionally, there is 1/3 off returns on-board local services after 9.30am which is helpful for shoppers.
