Tour operators from the international travel market have enjoyed an insightful visit to the Causeway Coast and Glens.

The three-day ‘familiarisation trip’ was organised for participants of the annual Meet the Buyer showcase event in Belfast. Under the guidance of Mark Rodgers from Dalriada Kingdom Tours, it allowed them to enjoy the unique visitor experience of the destination for themselves.

With a packed itinerary including some of the area’s unique visitor attractions, spectacular scenery and fabulous local produce, the trip endorsed the Causeway Coast’s position as Lonely Planet’s number one place to visit.

Taking in the stunning views of Glenarm, Glenariff and Cushendall, the group also travelled to the Giant’s Causeway where they were greeted by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE.

Speaking afterwards, the Mayor said:  “I was delighted to welcome the group to one of our premier visitor attractions. As a Council, we are committed to showcasing our Borough as an unmissable destination and tours like this give participants an invaluable opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding about our tourism product.”

Kerrie Mc Gonigle, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Destination Manager said: “The ‘fam trip’ programme aims to provide partners with new and specific knowledge about our area. The buyers can take home their memories of our destination and share their experiences in a positive way.”

Following the unique glimpse into the wonder of the Giant’s Causeway, tour members enjoyed a cocktail event in the Causeway Hotel.

The weekend activities, which were organised by Tourism NI, continued with a visit to Scullion Hurls Économusée in Loughguile, a food tour with Caroline Redmond from Irish Feast and a visit to Game of Thrones filming location, Cushendun Caves.
