School children get Streetwise

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s annual educational event ‘Streetwise’ has been enjoyed by school children from across the area.
Facilitated by a number of local agencies, the initiative aimed to promote safety and prepare pupils for the transition to secondary school education.
Participants were made aware of personal and home safety, how to avoid becoming victims of crime and encouraged to foster good relations with local authorities. The teaching was carried out in an interactive manner with opportunities for the children to have hands on experience on what to do in an emergency situation.
Events were held in Ballymoney, Coleraine, Ballycastle and Limavady with over 1000 children from 50 schools taking part.
Various bodies were involved with teaching and skill transfer at the events including PSNI Roads Policing, PSNI Community Policing, NI Fire & Rescue Service, Health & Safety Executive (NI), NHSCT Health Visitors, St John Ambulance, Dogs Trust, Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Translink (Ulsterbus), Northern Ireland Electricity Networks, Cancer Focus and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Streetwise organisers would like to thank Tesco for their support, which included providing a nutrition based scenario as well as donating fresh fruit to all the children who took part.
