Safety measures in place for Easter Sunday car cruise

Police are working in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to make sure the planned car cruise for Easter Sunday in Portrush causes as little disruption as possible.
Superintendent Jeremy Lindsay explains: “We understand this will bring extra traffic to the town and that delays will be inevitable however we are working together to minimise, as much as possible, any disruption this will bring.
“We are making it clear from the outset that any form of anti-social driving or reckless behaviour will not be tolerated – that includes excessive speeds, dangerous driving or any practice that put the lives of road users at risk. There will be a police presence in the town to offer reassurance to local residents and businesses and to ensure that drivers and passengers are not engaging in behaviour that would impact negatively on the community.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE said: “I would urge everyone travelling to Portrush on Easter Sunday to respect the rules of the road and act with consideration and respect for others. The Community Rescue Service is co-ordinating a cruise stop-off area at The Pits where there will be demonstrations from the emergency services and Education Officers in attendance. I also want to remind visitors to take responsibility for keeping the resort tidy. Please take your litter home or make full use of the extra bins which will be in place. There is no excuse for littering at any time.”
