Onus Gold Workplace Charter Award for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has retained its Gold Award for how it supports employees impacted by domestic abuse.
The presentation was made at the recent online Onus Workplace Charter Awards in recognition of Council's workplace policy, which ensures an effective response to all disclosures of abuse within a safe and supportive environment.
Welcoming the success, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Mark Fielding said: “After the annual Charter review held in October I’m very pleased to confirm that our workplace support remains to be of the highest standard.
This is the fifth successive year that Council has been recognised for its approach to helping those affected by domestic abuse and this Gold Award shows that we continue to lead by example.
“Everyone deserves to live in safety and I hope we inspire other organisations to do what they can to help those experiencing all type of domestic abuse.”
Speaking after the awards ceremony, which was held online due to Covid 19 regulations, the Chair of Causeway Coast and Glens PCSP Councillor Oliver McMullan, said: “It is vitally important that victims of abuse know that help and support is available. The PCSP is proud to be working in partnership with Onus on this initiative as we share a common goal to create a society with a zero tolerance approach to domestic abuse.”
The Gold Award comes as the Police Service of Northern Ireland launches its annual domestic abuse Christmas campaign with the message ‘Speak Out’.
Scheduled to run until mid-January, the aim of the campaign is to encourage the reporting of incidents and make victims aware they can take steps to stop it.
It encourages anyone living with domestic abuse to call their police on the non-emergency 101 or, in an emergency, always call 999.
A 24-hour Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline is available to anyone who has concerns about domestic or sexual violence, now or in the past, by ringing 0808 802 1414. This is open to all women and men affected by domestic and sexual violence.
