OLYMPIC HANDBALL RETURNS

The Causeway Handball Club are starting their next set of coaching sessions in September. This follows the successful introduction of Olympic Handball to Coleraine in recent years. Identified as one of the main legacy sports from the London 2012 Games, the handball sessions are being organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Community Sports Programme.

The game itself is the second largest team sport in Europe behind football. The 7-a-side format provides end to end action and it can be plaid by both men and women.  Each session will be lead by qualified handball coaches and anyone aged over 16 is welcome to take part.

The Council’s Community Sports Development Officer, Stephen McCartney, commented, “Handball is a brilliant team sport. It is easy to pick up and is great for general fitness along with improving handling and catching skills.  Anyone that has plaid rugby, football, netball, basketball or Gaelic football etc. will take to it straight away.

Sessions start on Monday 5th September at the Jim Watt Sports Centre, Garvagh from 6.30pm – 8.00pm and the cost is £2 per session.  If you’ve plaid the sport before or even if it’s totally new to you why not come along and get involved.
