Mini Family Fun Day and public artwork launch at Flowerfield Arts Centre

Fri, December 06, 2019

There’s lots to look forward to at Flowerfield Arts Centre on Saturday 14th December as it hosts a Mini Family Fun Day and the official launch of a new public art work.

Between 11am and 1pm, visitors can enjoy a host of craft demonstrations, kids’ workshops, festive wreath making and face painting, along with the Christmas Craft Market.

The new piece of art will be officially unveiled at 11.30am by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Sean Bateson. Entitled ‘Park Life’, the project was led by ceramic artist Fiona Shannon who worked with the local community to create a large scale, outdoor relief artwork, inspired by Flowerfield Park and its surroundings. The pieces were glazed by pupils from Dominican College and brought together under Fiona’s artistic and talented eye.

Lena Rose Florists are taking part in the Family Fun Day with a wreath making demonstration, and there’ll be a chance to place an order on the day for some of their beautiful festive bouquets. The Causeway Cookie Company will display their amazing decorating skills and Harper Moon will show off spinning wheel techniques alongside textile artist Linda Lewis. Maureen McGee will exhibit her jewellery making skills while Jack McGonigle and Fiona Shannon will be in the ceramic studios throwing a few of their award winning wares.

There’ll also be Christmas storytelling for children from 11am to 12noon with the talented writer Anne McMaster, getting everyone in the festive spirit of goodwill and joy.

All events and demonstrations are free and open to all. We look forward to seeing you there!

The Christmas Craft Market is open every Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturdays 10 to 1pm until Monday 23rd December. Late night opening on December 9th, 11th and 16th from 6.30 to 9pm.
