The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has held a reception to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Loughgiel School of Irish Dance.

A group of folk dancers from the school made history back in July when they became the first performers to be awarded a perfect score of 100/100 at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. In a memorable week, the dancers won four competitions and came second in another.

Speaking after the reception, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: “I was delighted to welcome this fantastic group of young people to the Mayor’s Parlour, and personally congratulate them on their achievements. Their stunning success can be attributed to their dedication and enthusiasm, which was clear to see. The dancers and their teachers are inspiring role models to us all, and are fantastic ambassadors for the Causeway Coast and Glens area.”

The dancers ended their evening in Cloonavin with a performance in the Bann Gallery, much to the delight of The Mayor and those in attendance.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, which combines competition and performance with international peace and friendship, is attended by almost 4000 performers. It has been held annually for over 70 years.
