Local Development Plan Preferred Options Paper launched by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council
Tue, June 26, 2018
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council launched its Local Development Plan 2030: Preferred Options Paper (POP) on Tuesday 26th June for a 12 week public consultation period.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “This is the first of three public consultation documents in the preparation of the Council’s Local Development Plan 2030 which will be the first Plan for the Borough to be prepared under the new planning powers transferred to the Council in April 2015.
“The Local Development Plan provides an opportunity to develop a new planning framework specific to the Causeway Coast and Glens Council area, balancing the development needs of the Borough with the protection of our built and natural heritage assets. Meaningful early engagement in the plan process is key to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to help shape the Borough. I would encourage everyone to respond to this public consultation and to participate in the planned public engagement events.”
The Local Development Plan, when adopted, will replace the existing Northern Area Plan 2016, and the existing suite of Regional Planning Policy Statements (known as PPSs). It will also be the key document used when making decisions on planning applications throughout the Borough.
The Preferred Options Paper outlines the Vision and Strategic Objectives of the Plan. It identifies what the Council considers to be the main strategic planning issues affecting this Borough and outlines a range of possible options to address these including the Council’s “Preferred Options”.
The range of options seeks to stimulate wide-ranging, yet focussed debate, on how we can best deal with the identified key issues moving forward.
The consultation process will allow residents, visitors, investors and other interested parties, the opportunity to put forward their views and influence the plan from the outset.
The POP is accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal [Scoping and Interim Reports, including Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) Baseline Study] and an Equality Statement. Comments are also sought on these documents during the consultation period. A series of topic-based background Discussion Papers may also be viewed online or in the Planning Office.
Planning Officials will commence a series of public engagement events across the Borough towards the end of July (see table below).
