Lessons in tourism excellence from the Causeway Coast and Glens

A group representing Sweden’s tourism sector has visited the Causeway Coast and Glens on a fact-finding mission.
They came to the area to learn more about the Visitor Information Centres network and the partnership approach to promoting the Causeway Coastal Route.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “It’s fantastic to see our reputation for tourism excellence attracting study visits like this to the area. The Causeway Coast and Glens is Lonely Planet’s Number One place to visit this year and our fantastic tourism product is complemented by our knowledgeable, informed and passionate staff.”
During the visit the group met with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Visitor Servicing Officer Caroline Carey and Niki Picken from The Bushmills Inn Hotel who shared their experiences of working in the sector.
Caroline said: “When the group first got in touch they told me they understood Ireland had the best Tourist Information Centres in Europe so it was a great honour that they chose to visit the Causeway Coast and Glens to find out more. Thankfully we were able to meet their expectations. Members of the group were very impressed with the promotional literature we produce and the Visitor Information Network we have in place which provides a fantastic service to the many visitors we welcome here every year.”
The trip included a visit to some of the Causeway Coastal Route’s most popular sites which feature in Games of Thrones. The programme enjoys a huge following in Sweden and the group provided very positive feedback about the interpretation panels which are in place at many of these locations.
The delegation’s visit began in Dublin, before they travelled to Belfast and then onwards to The Gobbins before reaching the Causeway Coast and Glens.
