Fri, August 27, 2021

Food fans in Causeway Coast and Glens can enjoy a taste of different culinary cultures thanks to a world cookery course created to coincide with Good Relations Week 2021.

The online ‘Taste the World’ course will take participants on a journey around the globe, offering a flavour of different nations’ delicious recipes and ingredients.

Delivered one evening a week over four weeks, each session will demonstrate a different culture and style of cooking, including Indian, Chinese, Polish and Iranian cuisines.

Taste the World starts on September 21st via Zoom from 7pm to 8pm, with three further sessions from 7pm to 8pm on September 28th, October 5th, and October 12th.

Encouraging food fans to sign up, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Richard Holmes, said: “This year the theme of Good Relations Week 2021 is Brighter Days Ahead, and the past 18 months has shown us the importance of community spirit and diverse communities working together to build a better shared future.

“The work of Council’s Good Relations team is a vital part of this, and the ‘Taste the World’ course is a wonderful way to learn about different cultures in the Borough through a shared love of fabulous food.

“I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to find out more about our neighbours, and through the preparation of delicious dishes help build better relationships and understanding in our communities.”

Those completing the four week cookery course will receive a free “Make it at Home Kit” containing key dry ingredients and recipe cards to recreate the dishes demonstrated at home.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Good Relations Officer, Bebhinn McKinley, added: “Food is a great way of sharing culture, stories and traditions with people from different backgrounds and enables a greater cultural understanding.

“Through the richness of food culture, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Good Relations team, alongside facilitators from Artsekta, will create a space for people to learn from others, share knowledge, better understand different cultures, and of course, eat well.”

This course is open to residents of all ages from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area.
