Tue, May 22, 2018

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE is calling on local residents to give public transport a go and get on-board this Bus &Train Week 2018, 4th – 10th June.

The Northern Ireland-wide campaign is a celebration of public transport and its benefits to the community.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE added: “Bus and Train Week is a great opportunity for local residents to leave the car at home and enjoy some more personal time, whether that be on their daily commute to work or ahead of a nice leisure activity. I am confident the campaign will inspire residents to use public transport more regularly and take advantage of all the culture and hospitality our area has to offer. It’s important to remember public transport plays a vital role in our community as it promotes social inclusion and sustainability, making the Causeway Coast and Glens a fantastic place to live, work and visit.”

Speaking at the launch, Joan Scally, Translink Representative said:

“We are delighted Bus and Train Week is returning for its third year. The celebration highlights the many benefits of public transport, such as promoting physical and mental well-being, boosting the local economy and protecting the environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the road. Over the past two years, more than 376,000 additional passenger journeys have been made during the celebrations and we want to build on this success in 2018!

“Translink strives to keep public transport accessible and affordable for all to help make Northern Ireland a more attractive place to live and work. We are thrilled that Bus and Train Week will not only include a wide range of discounted fares for passengers, but also an extensive array of great partner offers to encourage everyone to experience all that Coleraine has to offer.

“We would like to thank the Mayor for backing this initiative and encouraging everyone in the area to give the bus and train a go. We look forward to welcoming you on-board soon!”
