Free training opportunities for Community Organisations

Fri, September 30, 2016

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has launched a new Training Calendar which offers a range of free programmes for community organisations across the Borough.

The sessions run from mid October through to December in advance of Council launching its Grant Programme for 2017-18, and are repeated at a variety of venues.

The programme covers a range of themes, including roles and responsibilities within your organisation, inspiring ideas for your community festival as well as a ‘Meet the Funder’ event.

There will also be a number of information roadshows to launch the Council’s upcoming Grant Programme.

These will give organisations the opportunity to meet and talk with Council Officers who are looking after the various Council grant schemes.

Alderman Maura Hickey, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, has given her endorsement to the Training Calendar: “The Council recognises the enormous voluntary effort that takes place in our Borough through local community organisations and we are aware of the increasing challenges facing local organisations particularly around sourcing and securing funding.  The training programmes will provide local organisations with support to develop project ideas, attract new members and be able to apply for funding.”

Community organisations can pick and choose which units within the Training Calendar they wish to attend and which best suit their current needs.

The session on Good Governance on 10th and 12th October will cover the roles and responsibilities of the various members of your committee and will highlight good practice around the governance of your group. Your Community Needs You! is an interactive and fun session where participants will have the opportunity to learn and develop new methods to market your organisation and attract new members. This session will be run in 8 venues across the Borough in order to be available at a venue local to most people. What are the Needs in Your Community, which takes place on 8th and 10th November will support groups who wish to carry out consultation in their local area in order to inform and guide your projects and activities.

Sessions on Planning Projects on 15th November and Understanding Your Outcomes/Impact on Beneficiaries on 6th December will assist groups that are planning projects and putting together grant applications.

Representatives from Heritage Lottery and Community Foundation will be in the Borough on 22nd November for Meet the Funder one to one clinics.

Finally a workshop on Inspiring Ideas for Your Community Festival on 9th December will provide an opportunity for organisations that are planning a Community Festival to meet and network with other similar organisations. It will also be an opportunity to receive creative inspiration for developing their festival programme.

The Training Calendar has been jointly developed by the Council’s Funding Unit and Community Development team and is part funded by Department for Communities.

The Council is working closely with Causeway Community Networks and NICVA to deliver the programme content.
