Council’s Summer Recreation Programme 2016 Packed with Fun

PARENTS and children can now look forward to a fun packed summer with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s annual Summer Recreation Programme. Commencing on 4th July until 12th August, this year’s programme offers a fantastic selection with seventy courses covering thirty three different activities.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Sports Development & Physical Recreation Manager (Coleraine), Roger Downey who leads the Programme commented, “Council’s Sports Development Team is committed to offering as wide a range of quality activities for young people as possible and we believe this year’s Programme will exceed expectations.

“Council has introduced new activities and adapted some of the more traditional courses to appeal to a wider audience. Each course is designed to increase the participant’s skill level but more importantly the emphasis is on having lots of fun.”

The sports courses cost £30.00 per person per course and once again this year our popular Discount Ticket is back priced at £24 per person per course – this price is available on all courses to holders of a current Access To Leisure card and anyone enrolling a minimum of 3 courses per household (must be booked at same time).

Roger continued, “Enrolment commences at Coleraine Leisure Centre on Saturday 4th June from 8:15am for all sports courses.  As always, these courses are in popular demand, so get there early!  All interested parties will only be permitted to enrol one family on the initial day of enrolment.”

Choices for kids attending this year include: cheerleading; rowing; mountain biking; girls ‘allowed’ fun activity camp; dinghy sailing, sit-on-top kayaking & paddle boarding. Popular favourite’s such as: tennis; trampolining; hockey; and golf, will also be included in the Programme. Also, as a special incentive to all young budding footballers out there and to help practice skills taught, all participants on all soccer school courses will receive a FREE FOOTBALL of their own to keep!!

New this summer are an American Field Sports Camp, Athletics Startrack Camp, Bambinos Soccer Camp, Jack Attack, a Disability Sports Camp and Fitness Fundamentals.

Due to popular demand, the swimming courses follow the same format as last year with levels 1–10 in the main pool and minnows levels 1-4 in the minor pool.  They are also in keeping with the centre’s lessons, offering unprecedented value for money and continuity.

For those children who do not wish to be part of the sporting activities, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Summer Recreation Programme will also be taking activities out to the communities as an alternative.

Council will be running numerous summer schemes throughout the Borough this year including a brand new scheme in Bushmills!  Full information will be available from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Leisure Services Department.

With a Summer Recreation Programme bursting with things to do and places to go, Council is supporting the local community to put the summer holidays to good use and have some well-deserved fun.

Summer Recreation Programme brochures with full course and scheme details together with enrolment forms are now available from Coleraine Leisure Centre.  For further information please contact Roger Downey, Sports Development & Physical Recreation Manager or Stephen McCartney, Community Sports Development Officer on 028 7034 7234.
