Councillor Joan Baird OBE has been confirmed as the new Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

She took up the position following last night’s Annual Meeting.

Councillor Cathal McLaughlin is the new Deputy Mayor.

Addressing the Council Chamber, Councillor Baird said: “As a Council we must work towards a common purpose to improve and enhance the lives of citizens. We all have the best interests of the citizens at heart, and success for the Borough starts here. This involves participation by all members, good communication, consensus in decision-making where possible, and mutual respect. The ties which underpin success come from our colleagues in the chamber, and co-operation and support is vital to success.

“I pledge to work on your behalf in this chamber and in my public duties. I am looking forward to working with you all and with Council staff.”
