Council supports first Food Waste Action Week

Fri, February 26, 2021

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is proud to support the launch of the first ever Food Waste Action Week.

The initiative from Monday, 1st March to Sunday, 7th March is aimed at raising awareness of the huge impact food wastage has on climate change, and giving residents straight-forward ways to make a difference.

Wasted food currently contributes 8–10% of total man-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and roughly one third of food produced around the world is wasted.

From uneaten leftovers to edible peelings, the food we throw away contributes massively to climate change and we all have a role to play.

To kick things off we’re inviting everyone to take part in the Food Waste Action Challenge.

Every day during the initiative we’ll be sharing simple tips on to help you to save money and save the planet. From lowering your fridge temperature to less than 5 degrees so your grub stays fresher for longer, to mouth-watering meals using stuff most people chuck away.
