Council launch Bonfire Safety leaflet

Fri, June 23, 2017

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council launched a Bonfire Safety leaflet recently at an event in Dervock.

Promoting safer bonfire management, the leaflet provides a range of information and guides people in planning the bonfire, the collection of materials required and the cleaning up process after the event.

The leaflet was produced as part of a multiagency planning and engagement approach to encouraging and supporting local communities with positive promotion of Cultural Celebration.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Joan Baird, OBE, said: “In Northern Ireland, bonfires tend to be local events organised by people to commemorate or celebrate occasions with historical significance. I hope that people take the advice from this new leaflet and follow all proper procedures to ensure that bonfires can be carried out safely with the correct management in place.”

A copy of the leaflet can be downloaded by using the link below.

Welcoming the information provided in the leaflet are a group of young people from Dervock who recently completed a bonfire safety programme which was funded through Council’s Good Relations programme for developing youth capacity.
