Coleraine blooms with success

Florals displays like this helped Coleraine to the top spot in the Town category in this year's Ulster in Bloom competition
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is celebrating success in this year's Ulster in Bloom competition.
For the second year in a row, Coleraine took first place in the 'Town' category of the annual horticultural competition, which is sponsored by Translink.
There was also success for Ballymoney as the train station took third place in the 'Best Station Award'.
The achievements are testament to the enthusiasm of Council staff who work tirelessly to ensure floral displays and open spaces are kept looking their very best.
Success in the competition can be attributed to their skills and attention to detail regarding maintenance, street cleansing, planting and design.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey, said: "It's a huge privilege for our area to receive these accolades. First impressions are very important for visitors and tourists and our success proves we are getting that right. It's a great honour for Coleraine to be named the best town in this competition for the second year running. Looking around at the colourful floral displays and beautiful open spaces it's clear to see that the town is a deserving winner.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all Council staff who have plaid a part in securing these awards. It’s thanks to their efforts that we are celebrating this success. Our beautiful natural landscapes are enhanced by their hard work and dedication to making the area look its very best for those who live and visit here.”
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Parks General Manager, Paul Jess said: "This year the Council has truly surpassed itself with its efforts in this competition. Looking around Coleraine, from the Rose Gardens to the town centre, and the approaches into the town, it's clear to see why it has claimed first place for the second year in a row. Our staff take great pride in their work, and this is reflected in our public spaces. I would like to thank every member of staff who has plaid a part in this success."
