One of the most iconic trophies in the golfing world is set to make a special appearance at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s gala Sports Awards.

The Claret Jug’s presence at the event on November 2nd is part of the countdown to The 148th Open which will take place at Royal Portrush next July.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “We are delighted to host this prestigious piece of sporting silverware as we celebrate the achievements and efforts of sportspeople across the area.

“Our Sports Awards evening is always a very special event and to have the Claret Jug with us will certainly enhance this year’s celebrations. The Open is set to be a huge sporting occasion for the Causeway Coast and Glens and we are all looking forward to welcoming the golfing world to our destination.

“Sport plays a very important role in the area and all our nominees should be rightfully proud of everything they have achieved so far. I look forward to seeing you all on what promises to be a very memorable occasion.”

The ceremony at The Lodge Hotel in Coleraine, led by well-known broadcasting personality Sarah Travers, brings together regional heat winners from Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady and Moyle.
