A civic reception has been held in honour of Ballymoney’s newest World Champion.

Steven Bolton was crowned World Banger Car Champion last month following an event in Ipswich.

Stephen was joined by members of his family at the reception which was hosted by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE in Cloonavin.

Speaking afterwards, the Mayor said: “Our Borough has a reputation for producing top class sports people, and Stephen has proven himself to be one of the best in his chosen field. I was delighted to offer my congratulations to him on this fantastic achievement and I wish him all the best for the future.”

More than 200 racers from across the UK, Ireland and Europe took part in the Unlimited National Banger World Championship, which is now in its 45th year.
