A civic reception has been in honour of a local sportsman who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The special event for Gareth McAuley was hosted in Cloonavin by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE.

The shooter finished in third place in the men’s skeet at the Games held on the Gold Coast in Australia in April.

Offering her congratulations the Mayor said: “The depth of sporting talent within the Borough is inspiring and Gareth’s Commonwealth success is testament to this. I was delighted to hear about his experience in Australia and I would like to offer him my best wishes for the future.”
