The importance of staff development in the hospitality industry was the focus of a recent event hosted by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Destination Tourism Team, in association with Northern Regional College.

The Information Breakfast and Advice Clinic, which took place in Cloonavin on Tuesday 9th October, addressed the importance of investing in your business to enhance workforce skills.

Participants learned more about subsidised and free training available through the Northern Regional College while representatives of Council’s Alchemy Business Growth Programme were in attendance to provide more information about how their mentoring service could support the local economy.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “Council’s Tourism Team is committed to ensuring the industry is equipped with the appropriate skills. We want to ensure the sector continues to evolve and develop in order to provide the best possible visitor experience. I would encourage all those who work within hospitality and tourism to find out how you and your employees can benefit.”

Kerrie McGonigle, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Destination Manager added: “Our research shows that there are a number of skills gaps which could be addressed through targeted training and skills development initiatives.  Northern Regional College can offer a variety of tailored training programmes which may be of value to your business.  Our information event and advice clinic brought together an interested group of tourism and hospitality representatives who are keen to invest in up-skilling their workforce and find out more about the available training programmes.”

Further information about skills development, training opportunities or business enhancement is available from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s dedicated tourism Trade Engagement Officers. To make an appointment email engagement@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
