Bicycle recycle scheme gets into gear

Old bicycles have been given a new lease of life under a scheme from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
Staff working at Limavady and Dungiven Household Recycling Centres collected bicycles which had been dumped, before repairing them and getting them back on the road.
They are now used by staff from Ulster Wildlife as an environmentally friendly method of transport. The bicycles are also used during the working day when staff carry out wildlife protection duties in local forests and wildlife spots, and are having a positive impact on health and fitness levels.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: “This partnership is a great example of how resources in our local area can be re-used in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. These bikes were destined for landfill, but thanks to the efforts of council staff they are now being put to good use again, and are helping staff from Ulster Wildlife carry out their jobs.”
