Ballymoney Museum exhibition gives a glimpse into local school’s history

A new exhibition celebrating the history of Ballymoney Model Controlled Primary School will open to the public on Friday 1st September.
Taking place in Ballymoney Museum, it showcases the journey of the local school over three centuries, including four name changes and a relocation.
Featuring the original girls’ register from 1856, a pupil’s exercise book from 1916 and an old classroom chalkboard from 1955, the exhibition will explore the themes of continuity and change in education and school life.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE, said: “Ballymoney Model Controlled Primary School has an esteemed reputation in the local area. Since opening in 1856, it has successfully maintained the principle of inclusive education and integration. The array of photographs, sports and music trophies will be a wonderful opportunity for past pupils to reconnect with their experiences of the school and I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the display.”
Items on display will include objects on loan from Ballymoney C.I.P.S. and from the local people of Ballymoney.
The exhibition runs until October 28th, Monday to Thursday, 9am– 5pm, Fridays, 9am-4.30pm and Saturdays 9am-5pm. Admission is free.
Alongside the exhibition, a family fun day will be held at the museum on Saturday 2nd September. This free event will offer paper crafts, T-shirt making, chalk art, games and a variety of other school themed activities.
