Autumn reading event in Ballycastle

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has organised a free autumn reading event in Ballycastle.
It will feature Portstewart novelist Bernie McGill and Martina Devlin who is originally from Omagh but is now based in Dublin.
The event takes place on Thursday, November 3rd at 7.30pm in Thyme and Co on Quay Road, in association with Ballycastle Writers’ Group.
The Arts Officer for the Council said: “This is a great opportunity to hear two top writers read from their work which includes topics of local and international interest. Everyone is welcome to come along and it’s free of charge too.”
Bernie McGill is an acclaimed short story writer and novelist. In a review of her first novel ‘The Butterfly Cabinet’, Julian Fellowes, creator of Downton Abbey, said in The Guardian newspaper: “McGill has the ability to enter into the brain and heart of her characters and so to make us sympathise with people who commit acts we abhor.”
Martina Devlin is a best-selling author and award-winning journalist who has published nine books including her latest novel ‘About Sisterland’.
Martina will read from her short story ‘No Other Place’ in which the Omagh-born writer and activist Alice Milligan, a contemporary of Yeats during the Irish Literary Revival, but often overlooked, reflects on her life including her links with Roger Casement.
Martina and Bernie are included in a new anthology of short stories called ‘The Glass Shore’ which has been published by New Island Books this autumn.
