A glimpse of the Glens

Spectacular scenery and sumptuous local produce were just some of the things enjoyed during a recent familiarisation tour of the Glens of Antrim.
Around 35 participants from the local tourism industry and Visitor Information Centres took part in the event.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council offered the unique ‘glimpse of the Glens’ experience in partnership with Tourism NI.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey, who joined the trip, said: “We are delighted to showcase our fabulous tourism product in the Glens of Antrim along the famous Causeway Coastal Route, and enhance the product knowledge of the local tourism industry, through this opportunity provided by the Council and Tourism NI.”
Participants were able to experience at first hand the cultural heartland of the area – including its distinct culture and community and mythical stories and songs.
Guided by acclaimed local storyteller, Liz Weir, the tour began in Ballycastle and meandered along the Causeway Coastal Route, taking in stops in Cushendun, Cushendall and Waterfoot visiting some local eateries, tourist attractions, new products and recent film locations, in this exceptional area of the Causeway Coast and Glens.
There were opportunities to meet dedicated local trade and hear their stories while personally experiencing the local tourism product. This will allow participants to have more informed communication in their day-to-day visitor interactions.
The tour was part funded by Tourism NI as part of their Frontline Familiarisation Programme to enhance product knowledge of the visitor experience in our local tourism industry.
