A celebration of local sporting talent at the Moore NI Causeway Coast and Glens Sports Awards 2024

The Mayor has joined Council’s Sport and Wellbeing Team to celebrate the best of the best at the 2024 Moore NI CCG Sports Awards.

In this groundbreaking year for sport in the Borough, the gala awards hosted by sports journalist Denise Watson and held in the Lodge Hotel recognised those involved in sport across 12 hard contested categories.

The 2024 award for ‘Sportsman of the Year’ sponsored by Turley Legal, went to the motorcycle racing legend Michael Dunlop, coming just 1 week after crowds gather for his homecoming event in Ballymoney. With Coleraine’s Ellie Kate Hutchinson taking the ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ award, sponsored by Turley Legal.

The ‘Disability Sport’ award, sponsored by Causeway Clear Ears, was presented to Limavady swimmer Dearhbaile Brady who competed in this year’s Paralympics held in Paris.

‘Junior Sportsman of the Year’ sponsored by The Lodge Hotel, was awarded to Ollie McEvoy from Ballycastle while ‘Junior Sportswoman of the Year’ sponsored by Vend Digital went to Ballymoney’s Keri Halliday.

The ‘Junior Team’ title, sponsored by Causeway Healthy Kids, went to Dalriada U16 Boys Volleyball Team while Portrush Bowling Club took the ‘Senior Team’ accolade, which was sponsored by Causeway Active Life. ‘Services to Sport’ in the Borough, sponsored by Active Causeway, went to local football referee Samuel McNeill.

Coleraine Ladies Hockey Club U13’s took this year’s ‘Merit Award’, sponsored by Causeway Active Kids, and highlighting those who work behind the scenes, the ‘Sports Administrator of the Year’ sponsored by Causeway Engraving, was presented to Amanda Reid and Mervyn Greer, who both work in local football.

‘Coach of the Year’ sponsored by Causeway Active Sport, was awarded to David Quinn who works with local boxers in Ballycastle, with the ‘International Award’ sponsored by Hutchinson Engineering, going to Coleraine Olympic gold medal winner Hannah Scott, who was also recognised this year with a home coming event earlier this year.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan who attended the awards said: “I was delighted to see so many of our Borough’s top sportspeople, teams, coaches and support staff gathered tonight in recognition each other’s commitment to sport.

“These Sports Awards give us all an opportunity to recognise the people who make an immeasurable contribution to the Causeway Coast and Glens, either as a sporting participant, coach or mentor.

“Thank you this year, to our headline sponsor Moore NI and the category sponsors for each award, both we and the sporting community are grateful for your support.

“On behalf of the entire Borough, I would like to congratulate each winners and of course all nominees – we are very proud of you and wish you all continued success in your chosen sport.”
