Town Centres local community feedback survey
Community survey highlights support for ‘Shop Eat Enjoy Local’
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Town & Village Management team would like to thank everyone who participated in its recent online community survey.
The survey’s 270 responses provide some insight into people’s thoughts about their local town during this unique time and how they feel about returning to town centres for shopping, eating out or to use public transport.
Some of the key insights from the survey include:
‘Meeting friends’, ‘eating out’, ‘browsing in shops’, ‘visiting cafes’ and ‘shopping’ were the top five things people missed about not being able to visit town centres.
85% said they would shop more locally when restrictions are lifted.
75% said they would feel comfortable visiting garden centres, parks & playgrounds 66% and outdoor markets 63%.
Respondents were most uncomfortable using public transport 63% cinemas/theatres 57%, pubs 57% and gyms/leisure centres 52%.
94% said they would prefer limiting number of customers in shops.
85% said they would like to see more cleaning of public areas and reminders about social distancing on display.
During lockdown people appreciate local businesses more.
People are more aware of local walking/cycling routes and local online home deliveries.
People are positive about fewer cars on the road, cleaner air outdoors and they value local services and food providers.
There is strong sense of community spirit.
The information gathered will help Council develop actions for our town centres over the coming weeks and months.
