Councillor Steven Callaghan is The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens for 2023/2024.

Councillor Steven Callaghan was appointed Mayor on 30 May 2023.

Biography
Councillor Steven Callaghan represents the Limavady DEA in Causeway Coast and Glens.
He was born in Glasgow but has lived in Limavady since 1969.
Steven attended Limavady Intermediate School and Limavady Technical College.
He has served with the local 5th Battalion of the Ulster Defence Regiment and served 27 years with The Royal Ulster Constabulary in Londonderry.
He trained as a Chef at Limavady Tech and Ballymoney Tech, achieving NVQ Level 3.
He has worked as a manager in a local 3* hotel and various catering establishments in the Limavady area.
He has also worked as a volunteer dealing with community and welfare issues.
During his year as Mayor, Steven wants to promote the wonderful food producers and their products across Causeway Coast and Glens. He hopes to promote the local markets and traders in the area.
Steven also hopes to promote the voluntary sector, those with disabilities and the vulnerable in the community, and those people who support and care for the old, infirm and sick in our community.
Finally, he wants to promote the borough as a tourist destination and highlight all it offers to tourists and those thinking of setting up businesses in the area. 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

As Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan has a number of duties and responsibilities, including:

  • presiding over Council Meetings.
  • promoting and raising awareness of the Council’s main objectives and priority issues.
  • encouraging and supporting all aspects of life in Causeway Coast and Glens by attending civic and public events.
  • receiving distinguished visitors to the Borough.
  • acting as host on behalf of the Council and the citizens of Causeway Coast and Glens at civic functions.
  • acting as a spokesperson to the local, national and international media.
  • providing an appropriate response on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens at times of local, national and international catastrophe.
  • supporting and encouraging charitable and other appeals as appropriate.
  • promoting Causeway Coast and Glens  business, commercial, cultural and social life.
  • promoting Causeway Coast and Glens as a place of excellence in which to live to do business and as a tourist destination.
